Safety.Science is both a peer-reviewed journal and a developing scientific knowledge platform dedicated to advancing the science and practice of safety.
The journal provides the formal route for scholarly submission, editorial assessment, peer review and publication. Its authoritative journal records and Versions of Record are maintained in the Safety.Science Open Journal Systems platform.
The wider Safety.Science website provides a connected public environment for scientific themes, research projects, methods, educational resources, emerging questions and engagement across disciplines and sectors.

Safety.Science brings together several related but distinct functions.
The Peer-Reviewed Journal
The Safety.Science journal receives manuscripts, manages editorial screening and peer review, records editorial decisions and publishes the formal scholarly record.
Peer-reviewed articles, editorials and other journal content are clearly identified according to their publication type and review status.
The Scientific Knowledge Platform
The wider Safety.Science platform explains and connects:
- research themes and scientific questions;
- projects and programmes;
- methods, models and frameworks;
- educational materials and learning resources;
- public-interest safety initiatives;
- events, interviews and community activities;
- selected publications and emerging work.
Content appearing on the wider platform is not automatically a peer-reviewed journal publication. Its status should be determined from the relevant page or publication record.
Preprints and Emerging Research
NEDION Preprints is the preprint and early-dissemination service of NEDION Press. It is currently operating as a controlled invitation-only pilot.
Safety-related preprints and emerging scholarly work may be posted through the Safety.Science Preprints publication series.
Preprints are moderated before posting but are not peer reviewed unless explicitly stated otherwise.
Posting a preprint does not constitute acceptance by Safety.Science, completion of journal peer review, scientific endorsement or a favourable editorial decision. Any related journal submission remains subject to the journal’s independent editorial and peer-review processes.

Authoritative Publication Records
The authoritative location depends on the type and status of the work:
- peer-reviewed Safety.Science journal publications are maintained in the Safety.Science OJS journal;
- preprints are maintained in the designated NEDION Preprints service;
- books, reports and standards are maintained through the applicable NEDION Press publication route;
- research projects are maintained through their designated project environment;
- the Safety.Science website provides public explanation, connection and navigation.

Developing the Platform
The wider Safety.Science platform will develop gradually. Initial areas may include:

These areas will be introduced only when their purpose, responsible owner, authoritative content location and maintenance arrangements are sufficiently clear.

Safety.Science is published by NEDION Press.
NEDION Press provides publishing infrastructure, policy frameworks, metadata, production and preservation support. Editorial decisions concerning individual journal submissions remain the responsibility of the relevant editors and reviewers.
Foundation projects, public programmes, preprints and other NEDION activities do not determine the outcome of journal editorial decisions.
