Why Contribute to Safety.Science
Safety.Science – Journal of Integrated Safety exists to support the sharing of safety knowledge across disciplines, sectors and forms of practice.
Many valuable safety insights never reach a broader audience — not because they lack importance, but because they do not fit easily into traditional publication channels.
Safety.Science was created to provide a responsible, independent and open-access space where such knowledge can be shared, reviewed and preserved.
Why your contribution matters
Safety challenges are rarely confined to a single domain. They arise at the intersection of technology, human behaviour, organisation, policy, environment and education.
Valuable insights therefore come not only from formal research, but also from:
- professional practice and operational experience
- design and engineering decisions
- policy development and implementation
- education, training and supervision
- reflection on incidents, near misses and learning processes
Safety.Science welcomes contributions from all these perspectives.
Who Safety.Science is for
Safety.Science actively invites contributions from:
- Researchers and lecturers from universities and applied universities
- Engineers, designers and safety professionals
- Practitioners in industry, infrastructure and safety regions
- Policymakers, regulators and advisors
- Educators, trainers and supervisors
- Students and early-career professionals
Contributions may be written in English or Dutch. Dutch-language contributions should include an English abstract.
More than journal articles
Not every valuable contribution needs to take the form of a full academic journal article.
Safety.Science explicitly supports multiple publication formats, including:
- Technical Notes for focused technical or design insights
- Case Reflections & Practice Insights for learning from experience
- Reviewed Working Papers for mature but intermediary work
- Editorial and educational contributions that support reflection and learning
Each format is reviewed in a manner proportionate to its scope and purpose.
An overview of formats and review approaches is available on the Publication Formats & Editorial Approach page.
A responsible and respectful space
Safety.Science is not a weblog or open posting platform. All contributions are curated and reviewed to ensure clarity, responsibility and relevance.
This approach allows contributors to share insights in a respectful, non-blaming and professionally recognised way.
Contributors retain responsibility for the content of their work and are expected to respect confidentiality, ethical considerations and applicable regulations.
An invitation
If you have insights, experiences or analyses that could support integrated safety thinking — even if they do not yet form a full journal article — Safety.Science invites you to contribute.
To explore the available contribution formats, see Contribution Types.
