Safety.Science – Journal of Integrated Safety welcomes contributions in several carefully defined formats. Each format serves a different purpose and audience, while all are subject to editorial responsibility.

Journal Articles
Journal Articles are full-length scholarly contributions that present research results, integrative analyses or methodological developments relevant to integrated safety.

- Permanent, citable archive with DOI

Editorials
Editorials provide framing, reflection and direction for the journal. They introduce themes, clarify scope or invite dialogue within the integrated safety community.

- Reflective perspectives on integrated safety
- Invitations to dialogue or collaboration

- Editorial review

Technical Notes
Technical Notes are concise, practice-oriented contributions that address a specific technical, design, operational or methodological aspect of integrated safety.
Suitable for:
- Focused technical insights
- Design considerations or trade-offs
- Applied interpretations of standards or methods
Review & archival:
- Focused expert or editorial review
- Permanent archive (DOI when appropriate)

Case Reflections & Practice Insights
Case Reflections and Practice Insights provide space for reflective accounts from professional practice, policy implementation, education or operations.
Contributions focus on lessons learned and shared understanding rather than blame or fault.
Suitable for:
- Learning from incidents or near misses
- Reflections from safety regions, healthcare, industry or education
- Policy or organisational implementation experiences
Review & archival:
- Editorial review for clarity and responsibility
- Permanent archive

Reviewed Working Papers
Reviewed Working Papers are mature manuscripts that have undergone peer or expert review but are not yet published as formal journal articles.
This format supports work that faces barriers in traditional publication channels, including financial, disciplinary or timing constraints.
Suitable for:
- Accepted but unpublished conference papers
- Mature interdisciplinary manuscripts
- Work in transition towards a journal article

- Peer or expert review (clearly disclosed)

Conference Papers (Archival)
Conference Papers are archival copies of papers that were presented at conferences, workshops or symposia.
This section is not an active submission channel and is used only when the original event and review context can be clearly identified.
