Copyright & Licensing
Safety.Science is an independent, open-access pilot journal for Integrated Safety (Integraal Veiligheid). The journal aims to make knowledge about safety widely accessible while respecting the rights of authors and third parties. The journal is published by NEDION Press. Authors retain copyright of their work.
1. Copyright
- Authors retain copyright to their work published in Safety.Science.
- By submitting and, upon acceptance, publishing in the journal, authors grant Safety.Science a non-exclusive licence to publish, distribute and archive the work in all current and future media formats.
- Because the licence is non-exclusive, authors are generally free to reuse their work (for example, in theses, reports, or future publications), provided that the original publication Safety.Science is properly cited.
2. Licensing of Published Articles
Unless otherwise indicated on a specific article, Safety.Science publishes articles under the following licence:
Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)
- This licence allows others to copy, distribute, display and adapt the work, for any purpose, even commercially, provided that proper credit is given to the original authors and to Safety.Science as the place of first publication.
- Users must provide appropriate attribution, a link to the licence, and indicate if changes were made.
- The full legal text of the CC BY 4.0 licence is available at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ .
Any exception to the standard CC BY 4.0 license will be stated clearly on the individual publication page.
3. Third-Party Material
Authors are responsible for ensuring that any third-party material (such as figures, tables, images or large text excerpts) included in their manuscript is used with the necessary permissions and in compliance with copyright law.
- Where such material is not covered by the article’s Creative Commons licence, this should be clearly indicated in the caption or acknowledgements.
- Readers wishing to reuse third-party material may need to obtain permission from the original rights holder.
4. Self-Archiving and Reuse by Authors
Authors are encouraged to:
- Deposit preprints, accepted manuscripts or published versions in institutional or subject repositories, in line with the CC BY 4.0 licence.
- Reuse parts of their article (e.g. figures, text sections) in teaching materials, presentations, reports or future publications, with appropriate citation of the original article.
5. Publication & Identifier Policy
safety.science is an independent scholarly serial publication identified by an ISSN. It publishes research articles, white papers, and scholarly outputs intended for academic and professional citation.
Individual publications are assigned Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) and follow established scholarly citation and editorial practices.
Publications issued under the ISSN and DOI framework are distinct from book publications issued by NEDION Press and are not distributed or sold as commercial books.
This policy reflects current practices and may evolve as the publication develops.
6. Open Access and Charges
Safety.Science is an open-access journal. At this pilot stage:
- There are no article processing charges (APCs) or submission fees.
- All published articles are freely available online for readers worldwide.
If in the future any changes are made to the cost model or licensing approach, they will be documented on this page and apply only to new submissions.
